As much as I enjoy my summers and hate to see them come to an end, I am very excited for every new school year to start.  I always anticipate a great 9 months of learning, growing, changing, and yes, playing!  5th grade is SUCH a fun age to teach.

My name is Katey Forster and this will be my 2nd year teaching at GVCS. Although I have only taught 2 years in Vegas, this will be my 10th year teaching overall! (wow, I can’t be that old!)  Most of my teaching experience comes from a small private school in Hood River, Oregon, where I lived before moving to Henderson.  I also worked in Rwanda, Africa for two years as a teacher of missionary children in a one-room schoolhouse (grades K-6).

As for a little background, my and my husband’s families all live in Oregon.  I have a 6 ½ year-old-niece, a 2 year-old nephew, and 9 month-old niece that I am very proud of!  My husband Paul is a professor of materials and inorganic chemistry at UNLV.  In my non-school time, I enjoy going for walks/hikes/bike rides, drinking Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper, reading, eating Italian food, being outdoors, traveling internationally, and spending time with friends.  I think my favorite part of being a teacher is loving on the kids and building relationships with them!

Communication is key for us to have a successful school year, so I look forward to connecting with each of my students and their family.  Email is a great way to get a hold of me, and you can stay informed of what’s happening in class through weekly newsletters and InfoDirect on the school’s website.  If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact me!
